Cracking weekend of activity for Tri Spirit team members with club mates racing all over the UK and abroad.
Saturday saw four members take on a four mile team swim down the river Rother. Clare Donovan, Alison Scantlebury, Jo Coshell, and Nigel Costiff all swam the route, with Christine Costiff as safety crew. All had a great swim in around 2.5hours. A great achievement for all.
Liz King travelled to Cervia, Italy to race Ironman Italy. This was King’s 19th ironman race, and she was supported by team mates Ali Steed, Nick Whitfield and his partner Lorraine.
With a strong swim and bike sections King was on course for a a good race, however Ironman races often throw spanners in the works, and King faded on the run, finishing in 15.39.
Sunday saw team members racing at Eton Dorney lake, Hever Castle, Ashburnham and Barns Green.
Andy Stewart raced at VO2 Sprint Triathlon at Eton Dorney, and finished 3rd in his age group in 1.14.38, a brilliant result in his first full season of triathlon.
Steve Berry was in in wind down training for the Ironman World Championships on October 14 in Kailua-Kona in Hawaii, and helped a friend race at Hever Castle in the super-testing half-iron distance event The Gauntlet.
Steve and Jackie Maxted travelled to Barns Green to race the tough and hilly half marathon. Both put in great performances with Steve crossing the line in 2 hours and 36 secs and Jackie in 2 hours 7mins. Steve said: “Heard it was tough but the reality was harder than expected. Many miles of long drags / climbing, and in 22c. Great event though.”
This was a great training run for their Athens Marathon later in the year.
Darren Clark raced at the Sussex Triathlon in Ashburnham, racing the sprint triathlon. Clark crossed the finish line in 1.47.51.
The previous week David Whitehead had raced in his first ironman 70.3 at Weymouth, putting in a very respectable time of 7.41.39.
Tri Spirit Events next event is Chilham Castle Duathlon and Trail runs on 15 Oct, where you also have the chance to race with your four-legged friend in either the 5K or 10K Doggy Dash.
