Alan Green Memorial 10 Mile Race 2011
This event saw Vic Kenny and Liz King travel to Thanet for the 10 mile run race along the promenade. The route passed the new Turner Art Gallery and was supported by many local clubs form Kent.
With over 300 runners in the field there was healthy competition. Vic started off strong and tucked in with a group of fast club runners. Running to the turnaround point was a hot affair, as the back wind pushed the runners along. At this point Vic was in 8th postion in the women's field and 44th out of 314 runners. After the turnaround Vic pulled away, and after chatting to a few of the guys as she went past them, she moved quickly towards the finishline. Vic crossed the line in 1.11.39 which placed her 6th female overall. This was her first run race in years and an excellent result.
Liz started off at a steady pace, although it may have been a little too quickly as she slowed down in the last mile. But having not raced a 10 mile run such a long time. She was happy to finish well under the 1 hour 30 minutes that was her target time. Liz finished in 1.23.06.
